When should I get my heritage building’s exterior painted?
If the paint is looking at all weathered, peeling or damaged, it’s definitely worth getting us to come and have a look. Otherwise if it’s in good condition, heritage experts recommend having the paint touched up roughly every five years.
Preserving heritage significance
Because exterior paint is the most visible part of your heritage building, it’s essential that we make sure it’s as close as possible to the original colour and style to help maintain its heritage significance.
This includes using the right prep techniques that don’t damage important underlying paint finishes, and don’t exacerbate problems like rising damp.
It also includes using long-lasting paints and materials, and using ‘historically correct’ colours and textures, to make sure it looks accurate for era it was built in.
Some buildings with brick and stone finishes were not intended to be painted – we can advise what’s best for your home or building.
